She started the 35-year-old company, which sells ingestible and skin care products made from Royal Jelly, a rare and unique substance from the beehive, after a “miraculous” experience after using the product, daughter Lori Balletta recounts. “My mother struggled day to day when we were kids,” Balletta said. Unable to locate fresh, non-freeze dried Royal Jelly in the United States, she was able to locate some in London, England. She then started taking Royal Jelly every day for a full three months and began to feel better, Lori said. Madeline then began operating out of her home and moved to a corporate facility in Valley Cottage selling BeeAlive Royal Jelly products in 1989. Today the company is run by her children, Lori and Jason, out of a corporate headquarters in Congers, N.Y.
